Examples of roses - Gold Coast Rose Society

THE GOLD COAST ROSE SOCIETY INC;
8th ANNUAL ROSE SHOW

17 th NOVEMBER 2007 (11:30am – 5:00pm)
18 th NOVEMBER 2007 (10:00am – 3:30pm)

PRESIDENT’S REPORT;

We have just had the best Annual Show that I have been associated with. With over 450 entries from QRS, Darling Downs and GCRS, as well as the Birchgrove roses on display, the hall was magnificent. I thank the members who took time out to be part of the show doing all sorts of jobs from setting up, preparing meals in the kitchen, the sales table, door entries, the stewarding and packing up when it was all over.

I would like to personally thank our Secretary Angela Sully and Marion Bell our Show Secretary who have put it many hours since the previous show organising this one. They along with others, organise sponsors, ribbons, champion cards, raffle prizes, advertising and many other necessary jobs that made this show the best. I thank Ces who put in two full days at the entrance table and Robyn along with others who spent the weekend in the kitchen.

I will admit though that during the time leading up to the show, I was a little concerned that something like the weather or insects would ruin the weekend. But this was not the case, but boy, what a relief once it was all over. Anyone who believes we should have two shows a year needs treatment.

See you at the Christmas party

Terry Burke
PRESIDENT

2007 ANNUAL SHOW;

I would like to firstly thank all the members and friends who helped make our 8th Annual Show the highlight of our year. The set up went very well with everything going to plan especially with the added help of the new Centre manager who put up all the tables and placed them before we arrived.

The blooms were fantastic with over 450 entries, about 200 more than last year. They displayed very well on our special tiers. The Gold Coast Society members were presented with some excellent competition from the Darling Downs Rose Society. We appreciate the effort they make traveling a few hours to get to our Show and also the judges. The display by Birchgrove Nursery was spectacular with their beautiful blooms and the variety of roses on sale. We also had displays from Grow Green Technologies with their “Green” approach to gardening and also Linda from “The Lavender Pot”, Boonaha, who had some lovely garden products.

Various members of our Society worked many hours with Jenny Elmslie producing a stunning Trading Table. Angela Sully with her team was kept very busy at times at the Café with the wonderful fare they had on offer. Cecil Robinson with Wing and Serene Cheong made sure admissions to the Show went smoothly. Jim Elmslie declined this year to enter the Digital Photo competition, so after his previous wins I felt he was qualified to judge the beautiful display of photographs.

I would like to also thank our sponsors for Division prizes as well as our excellent raffle prizes. Congratulations to anyone that helped in any way to help make this a great weekend.

See you next year.
